Pet Adoption

Grand Strand Humane Society is proud to serve the city of Myrtle Beach and the greater Grand Strand area not only through our shelter, which houses thousands of displaced animals each year, but also through our low cost veterinary clinic which serves tens of thousands of animals here in our community. This is both an exciting and stressful time for our organization as we begin construction of our new facility while simultaneously facing challenges never seen before in animal welfare. In recent years, shelters and rescues are seeing animals pouring through our doors in record numbers, labor and supply costs are sky-high, access to affordable veterinary care is almost non-existent and donations are at an all time low. Open admission shelters here in the Southeast have been hit especially hard. Many facilities, including GSHS, are routinely operating at double and even triple our capacity every single day. Our team simply can not look at the face of an injured or abandoned animal in need and say no. This decision, however, comes at a crippling cost. Our operation reserves have been completely depleted and we are surviving week to week which is a terrifying position to find ourselves in. We desperately need additional donors to give towards our operational needs in order to maintain the level of care and commitment these animals deserve.

While we find ourselves struggling in our day to day operations, we are overjoyed to announce that our capital campaign is quickly moving forward and we anticipate that we will break ground for our new facility in March 2025. We have been successful in raising over $5,000,0000 towards our $8,000,000 goal and we are incredibly grateful for all of our generous donors. Our team has been working with the brilliant architects at LS3P for the last several years to design a welcoming and innovative shelter that this community can be proud of. This new facility will feature beautiful dog play yards, free roaming cat rooms, a state of the art veterinary hospital and ample space for the public to meet our beautiful animals.

As we take these next steps forward in our capital campaign we must remain hypervigilant of the day to day needs of the animals in our care. While fundraising for our new facility is absolutely a priority, we must also stay focused on our operational needs. We hear folks say so often that they desperately want to help but don’t have enough space in their home to adopt another animal. You can make an incredible difference by becoming a monthly donor so that we can honor our commitment to the abandoned, abused and injured animals here along the Grand Strand.
